Everyone wants the best wind turbine for their house, but how do you know which one that would be? If you look on the Internet, you will find that all manufactures are expert at making their devices look attractive, making the choices even more difficult. Do you get a great looking device that costs $10,000 or, will the $600 device that is not so cool looking that may actually serve you better? So, why go to all this trouble in the first place? The reason primarily is that we are running out of fossil fuels as a country and as a world as well. We have to shift to some other form of fuel in order to power our electrically paced and driven universe. This is not an option unless we want to give up the things that the electricity our world powers, like computers and iPhones. These are the factors that you must consider to optimize your purchase... How much wind do you have at the house? This is the biggest question by far and one you must answer early on. Wind turbines are not universally feasible. In other words they do not work everywhere. You need to take some data on your property and look into the details of the wind conditions of each particular location or you might install the device. How much wind will the home wind turbine require? Then, you need to get an idea of what kind of wind turbine you're really talking about. Are you looking into a vertical axis device that will sit on your roof or, are you looking into a horizontal type wind turbine device that you will would mount on a tower? These answers will have a tremendous amount to do with how much power you can eventually make and you need to answer these questions early on in your quest for information. How much electricity are you expecting to make? What are you trying to accomplish with the wind energy you harvest? This is something that most people have a hard time with. There are so many options available. You need to make a short list of 4 or 5 locations that are feasible and then narrow that down to one, based on the data. There will be one location that is clearly better than the others most likely. In summary, to choose the best wind turbine you need to focus on the details of the project, just like any other home project. There is just no getting around doing the hard work involved in learning the micro-systems that ultimately determine the efficacy of a given project.
