Did you ever imagine that vegetable oil could be used to fuel your car? Did you ever before expect gas prices to go above $4 a gallon? It used to be where diesel power was less expensive than regular gas but now it is the opposite. Regardless of the worries of oil supplies drying up, there hasn't been any efforts to do a mandatory save on fuel. We have seen no initiatives by the car companies to quit making big, gas sucking cars. Gas additives really don't appear to be working very well at all in keeping fuel expenses low. It is a mystery as to why these fuel additives can be sold. Vegetable oil can be used as an alternative fuel but it hasn't been receiving as much attention as others. An automobile that runs on diesel can even be put together to run on vegetable oil. There really doesn't seem to be a rise in the number of people converting to vegetable oil. It seems like it might be a simple choice, but what is involved in making vegetable oil. At the moment, Americans waste about 140 billion gallons of gas while dining establishments throughout the country dispose about 100 million gallons of vegetable oil. There's a big concern about the shortage of fossil fuels and the environment, but there isn't really much talk about using vegetable oil. Considering that vegetable oil is biodegradable, it will not harm the environment. Many people are concerned with how reliable vegetable oil is and its influence on the car engine. The main design of the engine developed by Rudolph Diesel could run on vegetable oil. The vegetable oil driven engine came out at the 1900 Paris World Exhibition but was not ever put into production because petroleum diesel was cheaper to use. That is why it is far from a surprise that vegetable oil can run a contemporary diesel engine vehicle. Opinions on how well vegetable oil works as fuel are actually mixed. There are those who felt no difference in the switch while others noticed coking in the engine appeared much quicker. When it comes to dependability, people who have used vegetable oil on older cars or trucks have not noticed any problems. Some owners seem to be running their engines safely with the help of conversion kits, while others are using a filtration process, before the vegetable oil goes in their gas tank. There are other owners who sometimes make their vegetable oil more viscous by combining it with fluids. When there is an issue that could result in an engine breakdown, the possible factors could only be speculated on. When the results are not yet in on how well your engine would work on vegetable oil, it is hard to get excited about it. Discovering an alternate fuel that has been confirmed to work effectively would be nice but we don't have that yet.
