It is true when people started saying that the internet brought, and still is bringing, the world together. Ever since the internet became accessible to most people, almost all processes and activities became web-based. Now, people can ask questions, shop, and do almost anything on the internet. At the same time, there are different support groups that put up online forums to help each other.

These forums are websites where people can be with their online friends. Members of these forums come from different countries; they are of different ages, and of different nationalities. A forum is also known as a message board. It is a website where people can have different conversations about different topics of interest. However, a website forum is different from chat rooms. When the internet first became popular among teens and young adults, chat rooms were considered the social networking sites. They were popular and very accessible. Chat rooms did not ask for basic information. The user just needed to input a nickname and start interacting with other users from all over the world.

A website forum, on the other hand, required their users to register. Some information or boards in the forum are restricted to adults only. There are organizers in the webmaster forum that are referred to as moderators. These moderators are forum members, or users, that have access on certain posts and conversations, depending on the area they are assigned to. They are also in charge in keeping the forum free of spam messages and that the members behave.

Some moderators can only access one area while the other, called the superior moderators, can access pretty much all the topics or boards. Administrators, on the other hand, are the ones who appoint or demote moderators and other members. Sometimes, they are also the owners of the forum. They are also in charge of making sure the technical side of the forum is performing well. They don't only create topics and boards but they are also the ones who should create backup files and a forum database in case the forum crashes.

In a website forum, any person can register to join. Depending on the forum administrator, the interested person may be allowed to post after he registers or he might be required to accumulate online hours before he is allowed to reply in any topic. Once the user is allowed to post, he will be able to post messages. He can also edit or delete his posts. Members can also contact each other by sending private messages, just like emails.
