How To Fly For Less On Porter Airlines

Porter Airlines is fairly new on the airline scene in Canada. They fly primarily out of Toronto City Airport, based on Toronto Island, at the foot of the city. Porter Air is constantly expanding their range, with flights being offered to destinations in eastern Canada and into some US cities. They have created a niche for luxury travel at low cost by offering free checked baggage, free shuttles to the airport, a lounge with complimentary snacks, espresso or cappuccino, complimentary boxed meals on-board, complimentary beer or wine on-board, and leather seats. Porter Air offers frequent seat sales, and offer frequent daily flights between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Like many other airlines, Porter Air has a loyalty program, which allows frequent flyers to accumulate points to be redeemed for future flights.

Discount travel sites are a great place to find low fares. Porter Air does not show up on all discount travel sites, so best to check their site for comparison. What you will find on discount travel sites are many airlines and choices. It is easy to compare, and find departure and arrival times that suit your schedule. Discount travel sites are also able to combine airlines to get you there and back without doing all the research yourself. You can also check for alternate dates easily on a discount travel website. Most airlines have lower fares mid-week than on weekends. If you can fly in on Thursday and out on Tuesday, you will fly at a lower cost than Friday to Monday.

Flexibility is essential to getting the best airfare. If you are able to fly into a nearby airport, or alternate airport in a city, you will often save money. Consider the time and expense of arriving at your final destination, but car rentals are often less expensive at satellite airports and you may spend less time waiting for baggage, or waiting in line for a rental car. Most discount travel sites offer more than flights. You can book your hotel at the same time, sometimes as a package that will save even more. Add on a car, and you have done your one-stop shopping, all details under control.

If you can fly off-season, the savings will be substantial. You will find that tourist destinations will offer specials after the peak, with hotels, restaurants and attractions less crowded, and more perks for the off-season traveler. Discount travel sites often purchase packages from travel companies or charter airlines toward the end of the season for sell-offs. It is better for the companies to sell at a lower price than for seats and beds to be left empty.

Last-minute flights are also a great bargain. If you are prepared to pack your bag and toothbrush, and head out, this is a great escape. Sometimes you may grab a flight to a city you hadn't thought about visiting, but the lure of the bargain sets you on your way. It's a good idea to get on the e-mail lists of several discount travel sites to be kept up to date on deals and specials. You will find something to suit your budget with a little time and persistence.
