Transparency Film Decorating

Printing on large format paper is something that requires a specialty printer. You know that you won't be able to print a forty five inch by thirty two inch poster on your tiny little desk printer. Not since the days of perforated printer paper have you been able to print banners on your home printer, but did you know that there are really cool things you can do with your home printer?

First, you can print transparency film on your printer. Why on earth would you want to do that you ask? Well, it's a little known painter's trick. You've seen those great wall decals that people are putting up in their houses, right? They're cute and really "in" in interior decorating right now. Unfortunately, they're also expensive! This is where the transparency film comes in.

Find something that you would want on your wall, a flower, tree, birds, quote, etc and print it on the transparency film. Make sure you print it at high quality. You also want to make sure that it is something that is simple and is not too intricate. You don't want to try to paint a Monet on your living room wall. You especially want to keep it simple if you're not an experienced painter. Silhouettes are definitely the best option.

After you've printed it out, find yourself an overhead projector, while this may seem like an impossible task, it's actually very easy. Since they're not in use much anymore, most schools still have them lying in storage. Ask your local high school or college if they have one that you can borrow. If they don't have any, check at your local library. Most libraries receive these types of donations.

Lay the transparency film on top of the projector and turn it on. Project it at the wall that you want to paint. You can change the size by adjusting the projector or moving it backwards and forwards.

Once you have it in the place that you are satisfied with, lock down the projector so it doesn't move. Take a pencil and trace the projection from the transparency paper onto your wall. After you've done this, you can turn off the projector and check your work. If you are satisfied, go ahead and start filling it in!

Again, this is a much cheaper and more satisfying method of decorating than buying vinyl wall clings. All you need is some transparency paper, a projector, and a bit of patience and time.
