While many people pay a professional to build their website, it is possible to build a website on your own today. With more information and great tools out there, you don't have to pay someone else to get your website built and up on the internet. If you're not sure where to begin, here are some helpful steps that will help you to build your own website without a problem.

Step #1 - Find a Hosting Provider

The first step you need to follow if you want to build a site of your own is to find a good hosting provider for your site. This is where your web pages will go so other people can see it online. Various types of web hosting are available to you. While you can find free hosting, usually it's best to go with a paid hosting program for the best results. Also, make sure you go with a good provider that is known for providing as much up time as possible.

Step #2 - Choose Your Domain Name

Although you don't really need a domain name if you're going to put your site up on a free hosting site, it's best to choose a domain name, which offers better branding for your website. It also will make it easier for people to remember your URL. Keep in mind that this will cost you a fee on a yearly basis. Come up with a good domain name that is relevant to your website. Try to make it easy to spell, easy to remember, and as short as possible.

Step #3 - Come Up With a Plan

Now you're ready to come up with a plan for your site. Decide on the information you want to provide, the type of navigation you want to use, and the types of pages that you are going to need. To successfully build your site, always have a good plan first to guide you in the building process.

Step #4 - Build the Pages

At this point, it's time to start building the pages to your site. Start by working on one page at a time. Usually it's best to start out with the homepage, which is the introduction to your site. Make sure you use a clean and professional design and go with a quality web page editor to make it easier for you to build a website.

Step #5 - Have Someone Look Over Your Site

Before you actually publish your site, it's a good idea to have someone look over your site. Have them look for any spelling errors, for any broken links, and for any flaws in the design. You want the site to be usable to visitors and having an unbiased opinion of your site will definitely help you to spot any problems before you go live.
