The Importance of Freight Shippers

By : Mark Etinger

On a daily basis freight shippers provide one of the bedrock services that enables businesses to function. Using either trucks, vans, trains, or a combination of all three, they keep industries running by carrying important shipments from one place to the next. Think of the roads and railroads as the veins of the nation and the vehicles are the blood cells that keep everything going. It is a very simplistic way to explain just how important overland shipping is but it is an accurate measure of their role in society.

One of the fundamental aspects of commerce, besides the desire for a certain product, is the ability of a company to supply and distribute said product to consumers. And obviously, you cannot just say what you want out loud and expect it to suddenly appear before your very eyes; that only happens in popular science fiction shows. Once the manufacturing is done a logistics company has to ship its merchandise to distributors or vendors. They are going to need trucks or railroads to ship them wherever they need to be. Shipments can be transported within the borders of a county or state, or maybe even as far as the other side of the country. And it can take as little as a couple of hours to days or weeks.

Since the dawn of civilization, ever since mankind has been using pack animals to carry their goods to local markets and distant trading posts, the need for transport has been of paramount concern. When civilizations realized they can sell goods to places much farther than their city's borders caravans were created to bear the increasing burden of shipping over long distances. Hundreds of years later came the Industrial Revolution and the wondrous train which changed the landscape of both the land and commerce forever. Trains and railroads stretched all throughout each nation and conquered the land. To ship freight suddenly became much more expedient and efficient. The advent of cars and trucks, though not as impactful as the introduction of the train, was also important and remain the most used form of overland shipping to this day.

Besides products for the average consumer, large pieces of equipment and even small buildings can be seen being hauled on large flatbed trucks driving down highways. Equipment transport is important and many businesses, like construction companies, need them to carry very heavy payloads to from one construction site to the next.

It takes a logistic company shipping hundreds and even thousands of goods each year to keep businesses going and the economy to thrive. They are the unsung heroes of commerce and deserve to be recognized for their contributions.
