Do It Yourself Cabinet Refacing With Finish Hardware

The kitchen is one of the most popular rooms in a house. When I was a kid, it's where we usually found mom or dad preparing dinner or lunch, or just making a snack. It's where we constantly wandered to when we wanted a snack, chocolate milk, or to sneak an extra bowl of ice cream. And sometimes it deserves a bit of a makeover with cabinet refacing. Using finish hardware, you can give your kitchen a whole new look fairly easily.

When you want to start your finished hardware project, you need to order new doors first. Wooden doors are a great choice and they go well with most kinds of other finish hardware. A basic wood can also be painted so you can change the color and style easily.

You'll have to remove everything from the kitchen in order to do your work easily without ruining anything. It's best to take out your utensils from the drawer, pots and pans from the cabinets, and keep them in a separate room for the time being. Remove all the cabinet pulls and knobs as well. You can install them into your new doors but if you want a truly different look, you should order new pulls and hinges to really create the perfect look.

If you are going to use veneer on the surfaces of your new cabinet doors, you should sand down the wood first to make it as smooth as possible before applying. You can also clean it with a tack cloth, to make sure it's in the best condition before installing. Clean off your cabinet pulls as well as now is the easiest time to do so.

Veneering can be tricky and since wood veneer is expensive, you need to be as careful as possible. It's an exacting process but it will leave your cabinets not only looking great, but able to stand up better to wear-and-tear over time.

You'll have to let everything have a day or two to dry and set before adding your cabinet pulls and other hardware, to make sure you don't damage the outer finish. These are very easy to install, with just a slight bit of drilling and screwing in. Make sure everything is tight so you don't have doors hanging off the hinges.

After you redo your kitchen, you'll find it looks like a whole new place but without the price of major renovation. You'll love the new room and you'll be hanging out in it even more than usual.
