Birthdays are the kind of thing that there always seems too many of and it feels that way because sometimes we can't always think of original gifts for everyone, or we don't have the time to go out and buy them. Gift cards tend to be the go-to choice and while they are nice, it's always better to actually get a specific gift. When it comes to small appliances though, you generally can't go wrong. You might think getting an appliance is a hokey gift but there are actually some very cool choices that can work for all kinds of people. For those who really enjoy their sweets, go with fun small appliances like cotton candy or ice cream makers. A friend of mine got an ice cream maker a couple of years ago and while no one actually pegged him as the type to use it, he made a whole slew of different delicious (and some scary) flavors and would bring them into work, sharing them with others during breaks. It was fun to see what he would come up with next and nice to know he was getting good use out of it. Cotton candy machines are great for those with a sweet tooth or a friend who may have kids. It'll be an activity they can share with them. If you know a health junkie or someone who just loves the tastes of fruits and veggies, consider getting them a blender. Not just any blender, but one that can puree that fruit immediately, so they can enjoy a nice smoothie or their morning shot of wheat grass and carrot, or whatever else it is they may enjoy. Espresso machines are great small appliances for the friend who can't live without their caffeine rush. We've all had the days where we need a cup to get going, but this is for those who rarely have days where they don't! Espresso machines are fun, easy to use and let the users save money they would otherwise spend at the local coffee house. A panini press is great for those who like to make their lunch a little more creative. Sometimes making the same old grilled cheese or random deli meat on a roll sandwiches leaves something to be desired. Being able to create paninis lets them make interesting sandwiches that are also easy to take to work and reheat. No matter what small appliances you choose, keep in mind the person for whom you are shopping. There's definitely something out there for everyone's kitchen.
