Where to Go For Dinner

So it's my last night in town and I'm trying to decide where to go for dinner. I don't want anything that I could possibly make myself, like American food. I know how to make a cheeseburger, and I could make potatoes better than any old French fries anyway. I'm thinking more along the lines of Mexican. But when I texted my friend, she said she had Mexican last night, so I'm not going to force it, especially since I did ask her hoping that she would give me guidance and she did.

Ethnic food, perhaps, like Indian or Middle Eastern? But she doesn't like spicy food and when you go to those places the food is almost always spicy. You ask them for mild and they look at you askance. Chinese I sure can't make but the only Chinese places worth going to are far away and it's not exactly the healthiest for you with all the sodium and MSG. Another option is the Vietnamese sandwich place, which isn't that bad for you.

What about barbecue, now there's an option. It's not as cheap as Chinese food but I can't make it and come on, collard greens, brisket, and mac 'n' cheese? That's delicious stuff right there. It's more expensive, yes, but it could be worth it.

Then again, that Vietnamese sandwich place is superb, let's be honest, and it's only five bucks. But you'll be hungry by nine 'o'clock and need something else to eat. And the three dollars of snacks you'll consume late at night may still be a couple of dollars less than what you would spend at the barbecue joint, but think about how much more satisfying the barbecue place would be. So satisfying. Get a Coke with dinner too. Really treat yourself. But those coffees they have at the Vietnamese sandwich place are killer, and they're only eighty cents. Yes, but you'll spend twenty minutes getting there. How much does that translate into gas when you think about it? The barbecue place is on the way home. Barbecue it is.

See, whenever you're deciding what to eat, or where to park, or anything that could require deeper thought, think with your belly. I don't necessarily mean your belly belly, but your intuition. What does your gut tell you to do? Imagine yourself in each situation, at each restaurant and what that involves. Feel a visceral reaction and follow its lead. See, I always know best.
