Sleeping In Your Wig

Many women choose to wear their quality wigs at all times for cosmetic reasons. This extends to the time you spend in bed sleeping. Many women do not feel comfortable sleeping without their wig. If you are one of those women, there are several things you should know.

First of all, it is not the smartest idea to wear the same wig that you wear during the day to sleep in at night. Because of all the movement you do during sleep, you are more likely to pull out hair, and put wear and tear on your human hair wigs. If you have recently switched out and bought a new human hair wig, you can use the old one to sleep in.

If you do choose to sleep in an older wig, you still need to take care of it as you would a new, quality one. You should brush it every morning upon waking. The daily brushing routine will keep the hair from becoming frizzy or matting together. Sometimes, if not brushed daily and immediately, it can be even more difficult to remove the sometimes stubborn tangles later on.

Aside from the daily morning brushing, you should also shampoo and condition your wig at least once per week. Make sure you brush the wig free of tangles before washing to remove loose hairs. This can cause temperamental tangling while it's being washed. While washing you need to make sure you don't miss the cap section of the wig. If you don't completely rinse out all of the cleaning product it will build up in the cap and cause irritation on your head like itching or even sores. Above all, you should always air dry on a wig stand when finished with the washing process.

Wearing a wig cap underneath while sleeping can reduce discomfort. Because you sweat more and produce more oil when you are asleep, you are less likely to cause a buildup of these materials while wearing your wig at night.

Buying a lighter wig, a cheaper wig, or a quality wig with a headband already attached might make your life a little easier. These types of wigs are also cooler and will make you sweat less causing less irritation. In addition, you should consider purchasing a silk or satin pillow to prevent a lot of the tangling that can happen if you choose to wear your wig to bed at night.
