There are many important things to remember and take into account when you are dealing with a webpage, one of which is your domain name. There are a few ways to deal with obtaining a domain name, one of which would be to grab a subdomain to hold you over until you can sink cash into a more permanent domain name, but in the end, you will need to pay the yearly fee.

If you want to save a bit of money, you will need to do a bit more domain name research than most people do. First, you need to choose a name that is relevant to your business, and you need to decide which extension you really want to use. The following are a few of the more common extensions in use today:

.com -- This extension is typically for commercial entities.
.net -- The net extension is used for companies that offer network services such as web hosts.
.org -- Used for non-profit organizations.
.biz -- Business websites.
.bz -- Originally for the country of Belize, now used by businesses that cannot obtain the .biz extension.
.tv -- Content rich multimedia websites.
.mobi -- Used for mobile websites that are formatted differently to be compatible with mobile web capable devices.

Though the .com extension is for commercial entities, a number of people use it for their website regardless of the content. While this makes the average website popular and easy to find, it has caused a bit of an extension shortage. That being the case, .com extensions are becoming much more expensive than they were in the past. If you find that you current domain names are too expensive, you could choose one of the cheaper extensions. If you have a bit more money, and if it is affordable, you are advised to buy your domain name with every single extension.

Cheap names exist, and they are not difficult to find. The most important thing you can do is shop around, and of course, make sure that you reserve your domain name before it is taken. Keep in mind that the domain name you choose will represent your business, and so you need to choose something that is either a keyword or something that is extremely obvious. In addition, it would be a good idea to shop around and make sure you really are getting the lowest possible price. It might be a bit difficult to ascertain, and you will need to do quite a bit of research, but it is possible, and you will be able to find the right domain and get your site off the ground.
