In the dark, short days of winter, it may be useful to find new and exciting methods to add more color and cheerfulness to your home. Nothing quite compares to the beauty of flowers and live plants in relation to chasing away the wintertime doldrums. When you really need your home to be freshened and brightened, here are a few ways in which you can do so with flowers. Gorgeous Cut Flower Bouquets Even when your backyard flower garden is asleep over the winter, you can still decorate your house with beautiful vases of flowers. Florists, gift shops and also the local supermarket sell beautiful cut floral bouquets year-round, making it an easy task to give a touch of color to your home. Try adding a vase of flowers to your bathroom so it can have a luxurious look. In the living room, a flower arrangement can add a timeless decorator's touch to your mantel. Or you can add some style and beauty on your kitchen counter or dining table by using a vase of fresh cut flowers. Beautiful Floral Wall Art If you don't have any flowers to showcase, add beauty and color by choosing floral wall art. Displayed in picture frames, art prints and paintings depicting floral scenes is usually a fantastic way to cheer up your home's décor. You may even decorate one of the walls with an oversized floral print or canvas, making a striking centerpiece within the room. It's also possible to bring a decorative and beautiful touch on your walls with your own floral-themed photographs to create reprints and enlargements. The fact is, when spring finally does arrive, you might want to try to make a point of snapping some photos of your own flower garden, to be able to use them as wall art. You can create your own beautiful wall decorations using the photographs of your personal garden for only the price of some picture frames. Living Plants and Flowers Nothing quite has the capacity to give a touch of spring to a winter decorating theme like live plants and flowers. Many houseplants have very low light requirements, which makes them perfect to grow indoors during the short days of winter. If you want to grow several plants that require a little more light, just be sure to place them near your indoor light fixtures. Using a little bit of planning, you can even trick spring-blooming flower bulbs including daffodils and tulips into blooming during the cold winter months. As these bulbs should be chilled during their normal winter dormancy period, you can easily imitate this process using your refrigerator. By planting a pot of springtime bulbs in October and placing them within the refrigerator for 3 to four months, you can have beautiful springtime flowers even though there's still snow on the ground. Some excellent options are paperwhites or amaryllis, which are designed to bloom indoors. Branches cut from flowering trees and shrubs including apple trees and forsythia bushes may also be forced to bloom indoors in the late winter season, adding beautiful color and fragrance to your house. So spice up those cold winter days with some flowers. You'll be so glad you did!
