Window coverings are a way in which you can bring some style and some warmth to any room in your home. So, it's really important that you know how to pick out just the right ones. Sometimes this can be a daunting task for some homeowners because there are just so many different types, colors, fabrics that all make the decision making even more difficult. Here are a few tips to help out. Find the number of facets that for your bay windows so you will know how many are needed for the coverings or drapery. Many bay windows will have 3 facets and some might have 5 or more. You will discover that there are kits for bay windows with 3 or 5 facets. However if you have more that that then you will have to buy them individually. Look for something that is going to complement the effect of the bay window. For example, bay windows look as if they expand your room. They seem to create a bigger feel and give a different and unusual view that seems to be calming. So try to stay away from blinds for instance because they can make a space seem smaller and cramped. Make sure that you compare a variety of prices. You want to make sure that what you get is going to fit your budget. Sit down and figure out what your budget is and then you should be able to figure out just what kind of material that you can afford to have the coverings be in and what kind of rods you can afford as well. Never go out shopping if you don't have a budget to work with. You also need to know the level of translucence you want the windows to have. If you get something that is darker or opaque then it's going to make your room seem a lot smaller. On the other hand, if you get two ply curtains that have the thicker outer curtain and then a more frilly and thin inner layer it's going to give you privacy when you want it and then all the natural lighting you want when you decide on that as well. Consider the decor in the room. You want to make sure that your bay window is distinct but it should also at the same time match what is going on in the room as well. So try and get coverings that are going to match your decor but still give the window it's own personality. There are a ton of different window coverings to choose from, so it's important that you take your time on the decision. Cottons for example will give a more soft and down to earth look. Satin with it's natural sheen is going to give a very elegant and simple look and feel. Blinds will give a modern feel but make the area look smaller. If you are looking for a more cozy look and feel, then you might want a full on curtain package with lace and frills. Curtain rods will affect the look and feel as well. For instance, metal is going to create a far different and stronger look and feel than plastic will. And last but not least the curtain rod tips are the finishing touch. From metal to aged wood or durable plastic, each tip is going to express a different mood.
