Scrapbooking Tools

Scrapbooking is a great hobby. It preserves memories from kids' soccer games, that Christmas you spent with your family in Alabama, and even your wedding day. They are important pieces of memory preservation and have even been found to ease some of the pain of memory loss in older family members.

Starting a scrapbook is undoubtedly a good idea, but it can be a little overwhelming at first. Just walk into the scrapbooking aisle at your local craft store to understand what I mean. There are literally rows and rows of paper, stickers, stamps, and other tools that are used by hardcore hobbyists. Which do you need? Which should you pick?

First, get yourself a good, hearty scrapbook. This seems easy enough. Find one that fits your aesthetic or find a blank one that you can decorate. There are ones that you can add pages to or fixed binding options. Pick the one that appeals to you. Eventually you will have more than one anyway so you can experiment with different types.

Secondly, get yourself some great photo quality paper. A scrapbook is nothing without those photos you snap at every family gathering. A good professional photo paper will ensure that those memories stay crisp, vibrant, and focused through the years.

Matte paper is good for backing each page. Again, this can be a little overwhelming but you know your own personal preference. If you hate the color pink, don't buy pink matte paper to back your pages with. It's that simple. There are other ways to make a ballerina page without covering it in pink tutus. This just requires some creative thinking.

Lastly, stickers are a very prominent part of scrapbooking. They are featured on almost every page. But if you can't find a sticker that you like, what are you to do? Well, one option is to look at ink stamps as well. If you can't find a sticker of a hydrangea that you desperately want, look in the ink stamps; you're likely to find it there. It works the other way around as well. If you can't find a baseball ink stamp, try looking for stickers instead. If both of these options fail, you can certainly make your own stickers using self-adhesive film or adhesive vinyl sheets.

Scrapbooking is a fun hobby and something that can be cherished for years and years to come. Don't let the daunting craft aisle dissuade you. You can do it!
