A quick search online for affordable engagement rings or unique engagement rings will bring you a myriad of results. All of which are mostly either very eclectic or cookie cutter small rings that are not what you were looking for in the first place. If you're looking for a truly beautiful and yet unique way of showing you care, there is an affordable way to do it. Look for raw stones instead of tumbled and finished ones. These raw stones, when set in simple pronged settings make for the most gorgeous affordable engagement rings. These pieces are truly diamonds in the rough. The untumbled unfinished rings are sometimes more beautiful than the finished product. They also are much cheaper. Most of the rough diamonds or raw diamonds are processed in Belgium! The process of getting diamonds is sometimes controversial. Most of the world's diamonds now come from Russia, Botswana, and The Democratic Republic of Congo. These diamonds are mined in large quantities and though diamonds are hard, they can easily be crushed in the process. Great care is taken to mine and separate the diamonds from the earth. After the process of mining, it's time for cutting. Diamond cutting is an even more precise and careful process than the mining itself. Each diamond is examined and placed in one of two piles: uncut and cut. The uncut diamonds are of lesser value but are not necessarily less beautiful! If you have never seen the beauty of a cubed raw diamond, you should go ahead and do that Google search now. Trust me, you'll thank me. The cutting process is long and tedious. Skilled craftsman are the only ones able to do it properly. These diamonds are sold on the open market and bought up by jewelry stores all over the world. But what of those raw diamonds? Certainly you can find sellers that distribute them in bulk but they're very rare. The raw diamonds still have the same properties as regular diamonds. The tight lattice of their makeup makes them very hard and they still have a great luster. These beautiful stones may not be traditional for jewelry or as prevalent in society today but they certainly make fantastic and affordable engagement rings much more meaningful. It is a ring your fiancée will be happy to show off and it will have a great story. After all, who doesn't want to be a diamond in the rough?
