With the number of people using the internet increasing day by day, many people are discovering the mandatory shift to have a website for their business. In the 90s, a website was a privilege that only government organizations and MNCs could afford, but now with scores of web-hosting companies available, it's possible for any pedestrian to own a cheap website. But like anything which is available in plenty, you should be careful in picking out the packages for your business. To make the best choice you should understand the basic steps involved in having your website online: The first step is to decide your website name (i.e. domain name). There is a fierce competition in the domain-name market, so spend time experimenting with alternatives. You would be lucky if you can come up with a creative name describing your services and find that the name is available. You would be baffled to see that some domain names are on sale for as much as $250,000! Don't get discouraged with such offerings. You can always have access to cheap domains if you choose to have a packaged deal from a web hosting company. Once you have got the name out of your way, start looking for a hosting company which provides a cheap website and simultaneously meets most of your business' needs. Every business has specific needs and you should be well aware of your own business needs. While surfing through the choices of web hosting companies you might feel barraged by the multitude of offers. Most companies give the basic AMP (Apache, MySQL and PHP) package, a reasonable storage space of few Gigabytes (GB), an acceptable bandwidth, and some core services like email accounts, contact services, etc. An important thing to look for in such a package is a site-builder. You wouldn't like the basic layout which the company would give to your website. So, you should make sure that there are flexible web design capabilities in the website. The themes which come with the packages have a very professional web design, which can serve as an initial, high-quality template for your website. The last step is selecting services. If you are planning on having an e-mart then merchant services and shipping services form the core of the package. Having a customer support is also an important ingredient. There should be mechanisms by which the customer is kept informed throughout the transaction. As far as ease in handling the website is concerned, look for a company which provides round-the-clock customer support to its customers (typically 24 hours a day, 7 days a week).
