Buying A New Bed

Buying a bed can be a tricky business. It's an important investment and a piece of furniture that will be with you for a long time. Beds can certainly last for long periods but the right bed will last you ten years or even more!

But what should you look for in purchasing a bed from a bed furniture store? Well, the first thing to think about is size. What is the best size for you? The general rule of thumb is to purchase as large a bed as you can fit into the room. Take into consideration the size of the room the bed will be in and get the largest one you can. This will ensure that you and possibly your bedmate will have lots of room to shift over the course of the night without bothering one another. Also, the more room you have, the more positions you will be able to get into to be comfortable. This will ensure good REM sleep.

Make sure you consider not only the size of the room but the size of the doors. Many home furniture stores will deliver your new bed for you; however, it will be a moot point if you cannot get it into the house or maneuver it up the stairs. You can measure the size of these doors and other passageways and take a measuring tape with you to the bedroom furniture store.

You want to make sure that the mattress isn't too hard or too soft. A soft mattress will cause sag in the middle of the bed which will lead to back problems. A hard mattress will be too stiff for your joints. To find a happy medium, test drive some of the mattresses in the home furniture store. Go ahead, lay down on them. When you're trying them out, lay on them with your bed partner for at least ten minutes. Make sure you both have enough room and make sure it's comfortable for both of you. The store clerk will be able to help you decide which the best stiffness is for you.

Another thing to consider when testing out the bed is the bounce. Don't just sit on the edge of the bed and bounce a little up and down, really test it out. The bounce transfer is a significant factor in whether your nighttime snacking will wake your partner because the bounce transfer wakes them up.

Since you will be using this bed for several years, sleeping in it for 8 hours a night, and spending over one third of your life asleep in it, you should really make sure you're getting the best one for you.
