Nearly everyone has a stack of old photos sitting around. They might be pictures that are duplicates of other photos you put in albums, or maybe they're pictures that just didn't come out the way you hoped they would. They might even be photographs of people you don't even know, particularly if you inherited bins of photos from relatives. If you have some photos that you truly do not need but cannot seem to throw away, why don't you use them to create some fun and interesting craft projects? You'll end up with some excellent crafty results that you will be able to use to decorate your house, or possibly even give as gifts. Placemats Made Out of Pictures You can use those old photos to make wonderful placemats to place on your table. Begin by using a previously made placemat to trace the dimensions and shape onto a piece of light cardboard or perhaps poster board. Then adhere the pictures to one of the sides of the shape with some "photo splits" or maybe some glue. You can organize them in any design you like, such as a grid pattern or maybe a random collage pattern. When finished, seal the placemat by cutting out two pieces of see-through contact paper that are large enough to extend about a half inch on every side of the cardboard placemat. Use a sheet of the contact paper on both of the sides of the placemat, and be sure that you seal up all of the edges securely with the paper. Vintage Wall Art If you have some charming black and white pictures, you can use them to make vintage wall art. Just select a few old photographs that have a lot of visual appeal, and place them in picture frames to hang up in a small collection on your wall. Or, scan in an old photo, making it bigger so that you can create a much larger piece of art. You will find that this is a great way to add some fashion to your home without spending very much money. Photo Storage Box If your nice pictures are stored in boxes, you might wish to decorate those boxes with some old pictures. Apply a collage technique to cover the entire box with old pictures, and make sure you cover up the box and the lid separately. When the glue has dried all the way your photo boxes will certainly be attractive enough for showcasing on a shelf. Art That Will Show Your Family Tree If your pictures feature lots of family members and other relations, you may decide to make a great poster of your family tree. Use a design to create your chart, or simply figure out your own pattern. Next, fill out the information for each member in the family, and then glue pictures next to the information on each person. This is usually a great way to use any group photos you might have, since you can use the same picture to cut out images of many people. When you are all done with this, simply put the finished product in a picture frame and hang it on your wall. Decoupage Crafts Made From Photos Combining decoupage with old photos can be a fun way of creating some truly beautiful craft projects. You will find full directions for creating a number of different crafts on the Mod Podge package. Before using photos for decoupage, spray them with a couple of coats of clear acrylic spray, which will prevent photos from smearing when the Mod Podge is applied. So do not throw away those old pictures just yet! You'll have lots of fun making these crafts.
