Tis the season for holiday parties, including holiday class parties at your child's school. Regardless of a party's location, you need to have the appropriate party ware for it. If you are a class parent and are in charge of organizing the holiday party, make sure you are prepared with the appropriate supplies.

Your first objective is to talk to your child's teacher. Although you may be tempted to throw an extravagant event, the teacher would probably prefer that you keep it a relaxed affair. You need to ascertain certain vital information such as the date and duration of the party, and the number of the children in the class. Ask the teacher if any specific foods or beverages are expected and if there is a party theme. Establish the party location, since where it is held, whether it is in the classroom, the cafeteria, or the playground, may impact the party planning. Find out if it is acceptable to send a letter to parents asking for donations of money or party goods, such as disposable cutlery, and determine how many helpers you or the teacher should recruit. Most importantly, inquire about any food allergies or dietary restrictions the students may have.

You want to keep all food, games, and activities simple; you do not need to worry too much about keeping the kids entertained, they will be glad for the reprieve from schoolwork. You may want to try to incorporate a recently studied subject into the party's theme, or you may want the atmosphere festive and design it as a nondenominational holiday party. And, if the party comes with a time constraint, plan a craft or activity rather than a game. Children will leaving with party favors, so perhaps your craft can become the party favors.

If you are buying the party goods, purchase them in bulk from an online retailer. Purchasing plastic silverware, paper plates, etc in this fashion will save you both time and money and you may use any leftover supplies for your own holiday gathering. As a general rule, it is probably wisest to abstain from purchasing or making anything containing potent allergens such as peanuts or nuts.

On the day of the party stay organized and remain calm. Make a checklist a day or two before the party to make sure you have all the necessary supplies. Have everything appropriately portioned and ready to go the night before the party, so you and your child are not inordinately stressed before school in the morning. Meet any parents who are helping you outside the school, so they may help you carry supplies and you may assign any remaining jobs. And, when you set everything up, stand back, and have fun!
