Jewish Weddings

Although we are locked in winter's icy grip now, spring will be with us before we know it. With spring comes the promise of re-birth, renewal, and new life. For many people it also means weddings. A lot of people hold off on getting married until the spring to take advantage of great weather. While the newlyweds are gallivanting about intoxicated with love it us up to family members to gather things together for a proper Jewish wedding.

The first thing you are going to need is some wedding kipas. A lot of people don't have kippas handy so you should make sure you are able to supply them. Simple black or white should be fine. If you really want to get festive, however, you can offer a rainbow of colors.
The next thing you will need is a lot of Jewish wine. Everyone loves wine and weddings can be awkward. You will need a lot of wine to ease into getting to know your new family members. Sweet Jewish wine also goes well with sweet wedding cakes.

If you are attending a Jewish wedding this spring you are going to need Jewish gifts. You have a lot of options in this department. Jewish books make great gifts. Everyone loves books and if they don't they aren't mature enough to get married.

You should also keep in mind that these two people are starting a life together so they will need all the basics. A family haggadah, seder plates (even though plates are a pretty lame gift), a challah cover, these are all basic things they will need for their new life together. If you are unsure of what the new bride and groom will like, check the registry, or give them a gift card. Although a gift card is less personal than a gift it it is much better than a bad gift.

Back to the subject of wine, a wonderfully sentimental Jewish gift is a quality bottle of wine from the year of the wedding. Then they can drink in on their five or ten year anniversary and they will think of you. Making a marriage work also requires a lot of wine.

Other than that all you can do is hope for matrimonial bliss for the two young lovers. Although most marriages end in divorce, that doesn't mean you shouldn't try. Unfortunately, however, you don't get the gifts back in the event of divorce.
