The ways that the internet has touched our lives it almost seems quaint to even think about phone service. As the expanding world of the web blows minds consistently every day with it's complete upending of how information is disseminated, how people communicate, how things are bought and sold, how literally every aspect of our lives is carried out it is a strange almost colloquial concern to even think about home phone service. We now literally each and every day have nearly the whole wealth of human knowledge available on a touch screen in our pockets and you are going to be concerned about a quick check in with Mom and Dad? Yes, we are going to be concerned with that check in. As much as the world wide web has made the idea of the traditional phone call into a smaller and smaller slice of our day to day existence the significance of the phone call has not been completely diminished. In fact as the full length in depth conversation of two voices becomes rarer and rarer it is likely a more important and more meaningful measure to consider in all of our personal relationships. Direct communication is never going to be replaced with texts, emails and Facebook posts. As much as the internet has changed every aspect of our lives the need for real communication is completely necessary for all of us to move forward in a meaningful way with the people that matter to us. So with that all in mind it is now almost ironic to begin to discuss how the power and services of VoIP providers is changing the way those quaint old phone calls are happening all over the place. We have become more than a little accustomed to using computers to communicate and the power of broadband phone service is it takes us all back to that time and place in a new, cheaper, clearer and more readily available way. Internet telephone service is like the bounce back of a significant and often overlooked need in all of us to make the connections we have spent so much of this piece discussing. With the internet it often feels like our lives are a cluster of totally unending and porous conversations. Voices float in and out. People chime in and offer information or opinion on public posts. But with an internet phone call you can shrink that all back to where it sometimes belongs. Two voices sharing thoughts.
