Many of us are passionate about social or political causes but don't know exactly how to act on our passions. Organizing free events in NYC , or getting involved with an organization that puts together events, can be a great outlet for your social and political concerns. It is also a great way to meet likeminded people in your community, effect change, and have fun. If you are thinking of getting active in your community the first thing you should do is see if any charitable, social, or cultural organizations in the area that you would want to become involved with. Considering how many such organizations exist in New York city that shouldn't be hard. You can also seek like-minded people online. The next thing you should do is see what upcoming events a given organization has scheduled. Most organizations are constantly having small events; things like talks, meet and greets, dinners, or seminars. Check out a few free events and see which organization really speaks to you. Think long and hard about whether this is something you want to donate your time and effort to. Also think practically; do you enjoy the day to day goings on of the organization? Do you like the people you met there? Can you see yourself being a part of it? These questions will help you find something you are truly passionate about and will enjoy doing. This is when the real fun begins. Once you have devoted yourself to a cause you can begin promoting and shaping free events. Spread the word in your community about upcoming event associated with your cause. Post flyers in the streets and message on your Facebook page. Promote music events, food events, and anything else your organization of choice is planning. Once your fellow volunteers see how passionate you are they will likely give you more say and input as to what kind of free events or fund raisers are thrown. This will allow you to spread your wings and try to think creatively about a way to educate, persuade, and entertain the public. If you are passionate about effecting a change, chances are a lot of people agree with you and even if they don't, healthy debate is always a good thing. Few things in life are as rewarding as organizing events to benefit your community. The sense of accomplishment, excitement, and joy of making people happy and promoting reform is overwhelming. Everyone should try it.
