Living in a modern society committed at least in it's laws and appearances to the safest methods of medical waste disposal we are lucky. We have laws a medical waste disposal company or two to help keep us safe from people's rabid greed and desire to do the bare minimum. There are reliable experts trained in hazardous waste disposal eager to clean up after medical facilities and other places that generate various forms of biohazardous waste safely. Of course as we become a more self serving population it becomes difficult to control the way everyone conducts their medical and chemical waste disposal. With a wide array of people giving themselves certain types of shots and cleaning out certain types of wounds it is important that these things be disposed of in a way that protects our unsuspecting sanitation workers. I am often reminded by the fact that many people continue to dump oil from deep fryers down drains, even though this is widely considered not just bad for you but bad for your plumbing. If people can have such a blatant disregard for their plumbing imagine what disregard they have for people and things they will never ever see. As a result I often find myself concerned that medical waste disposal is being done in a way that is cavalier and unsafe for any number of people involved in the chain of garbage collection and waste management. Some folks have made a distinct effort to do the right thing when dealing with their private hazardous waste disposal. They have separate garbage cans both in their home and on their curb and go out of their way to employ a medical waste disposal company that can manage this particular waste carefully and without endangering local sanitation workers. This is the only truly responsible way to dispose of these items. We have very little understanding of where they could possibly end up without this kind of care being paid to hazardous waste. It is the right thing to do. We are so lucky to live in a place that, on a large scale, takes the handling of medical waste and chemical disposal seriously and we in our day to day lives should try our best to hold ourselves up to the standards we expect from these large corporations. We need to everything in our power to secure our chemical and medical waste to keep our homes and the lives of other as safe as possible. The convenience of self administered medication is undeniable but the responsibility that comes with it is equally as undeniable.
