If you've been doing your muscle building regimen regularly and not been able to bulk up in a reasonable amount of time - let's say two months - then it's time to take a step back and see what's wrong with your workout regimen. First, if you've been working out on your own and piecing together your workout from different sites on the internet, stop. Consult a professional trainer or hire a virtual trainer over the internet to get a holistic plan that works well for you. You'll need to evaluate your whole body's strengths and weaknesses and then create a road map that will let you know where to go and then evaluate how far you've come.

If you've plateaued, it's time for a change. You could have had a little or a significant amount of difference in your body since the time you started and then - it stops. Nothing happens for a few months. That mean's you've reached your current peak so something has got to change to allow you to climb even higher. You could change your routine, take a bit of a rest, or add more to your food intake. Don't disregard this important signal from your body.

Are you over-targeting a certain part of your body? You may be interested in building up your arms more because your girlfriend told you she loves big arms. Or, you may overhear a lot of comments about your six-pack, your pecs, whatever. The point is, just concentrating on one part of the body will go a long way toward making you look unbalanced and unsymmetrical. Aim on giving yourself an overall muscled look instead.

Supplements don't make muscles grow; workouts do. You shouldn't believe that taking this or that supplement will give you a "Superman" body. Taking the right, healthy supplements with a healthy diet will definitely work towards giving your body the right building blocks to bulk up the muscles but you can't do that without a proper workout.

Are your training sessions intense? This doesn't mean working out until you pass out, neither does it call for marathon three or four hour sessions in the gym. Use a little more weight that is comfortable for you, and do reps until you think you can't anymore. You need to challenge the body or your muscles will see no need to bulk up.

Never stop. You don't perfect something, you progress to the next level. There is always room for improvements.
