So, gentleman, Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat. Your girlfriend or wife is leaving you hints around the house or apartment that she would like some jewelry. Maybe she left the sales catalogue open to the necklaces page, or keeps proclaiming loudly how empty her jewelry box is. When she starts mentioning all of the "other girls at work" who have nice shiny new rings, you know it's time to get to your local jewelry store to start looking for gold chain necklaces or white gold bracelets. But, that's where you run into a snag; there is a lot of debate over white gold over yellow gold. Which does your significant other prefer? If all of her other jewelry pieces are yellow gold, buying a white gold chain is probably not the way to go. If you find, however, that she has a mix of yellow gold and white gold, you may need to look into other factors when purchasing jewelry. If you plan on buying your wife that sapphire she's always wanted, you're probably safe with either color. Medium gemstones will look great with either gold chain necklace. If you plan on choosing a light colored gem stone, white gold is a better match while a darker gem stone is better suited for yellow gold. If you put a dark ruby gemstone into a white gold setting, the over contrast may cause the gem to appear darker than it actually is, and in some cases it could look black! No one wants their beautiful dark green emerald to look black. This is not to say that you have only those two choices. You can get a 14k gold chain in a mixture of white and yellow gold. If you have any doubts about your loved one's preferences on gold color, or aren't sure which stone will look best with which gold, a mix of the two is probably the best way to go. If you are a man who has been getting those not so subtle hints about buying jewelry for Christmas, keep these tips in mind before going out and spending a lot of money on something your lovely lady friend might not like. You want this piece to be something she shows off at the office and wears with pride to the best parties. You can definitely achieve this by keeping in mind her preferences and the aesthetic choices that accompany the different types of gold.
