Worry And Apartment Rentals

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.nextlevelarticles.com/rss.php?rss=92
By : Mark Etinger

My biggest fear when coming to live in New York was finding an apartment in a good neighborhood. Well, actually, my biggest fear was getting lost in the subway system, but finding a good apartment was a very, very close second.

I had heard the horror stories from my parents of terrible things happening to those individuals unlucky enough to wander into the wrong neighborhood. I think that's why I avoided looking for apartment rentals at first.

Then I realized that my parents had never lived or even BEEN to New York City, so their stories were second hand and probably grossly exaggerated. It turns out this was the case. When I was trying to find an apartment, a rather expensive process, I started looking at no fee apartment rentals. Not only were these apartments a lot cheaper than the ones I was looking at in other parts of the city, the neighborhoods were warm, welcoming, and definitely up and coming.

Walking down the streets you could see signs of progress. Where once a dilapidated, abandoned building stood now housed an organic food store. The site of a burned out apartment complex now proudly exclaimed the grand opening of a new business. Luxury apartments were sprouting up everywhere.

The people were amazingly nice as well. When I looked for apartments I was amazed at the hospitality! Everyone in the neighborhood was outside (it was summer) playing in the sprinklers. They told me everything I ever wanted to know about the neighborhood. They told me how far the grocery store was, where the closest subway stop was located, how to get to the post office, what the neighborhood was like at night, and so on and so forth. They were very honest, jovial, and all around good people. They even invited me to their Fourth of July barbeque! I hadn't even moved in yet!

Don't listen to the people who tell you that some neighborhoods are scary places to live. If I had listened to my parents, I wouldn't have found such a fantastic place to live and would have missed out on some great friends. It was so nice for a person coming from a small country community, a place where you grow up around your neighbors and they become your best friends, to find a place that was just as accommodating, warm, and friendly but a lot closer to Broadway, the Statue of Liberty, and Rockefeller Center!
