But before you take the easy way out and opt for a gift card to his favorite music store, you might want to check out this article. I'm sure you know what his favorite musicians or bands are, so look for performance albums and DVDs to give him inspiration when playing. Just about every band has a live DVD out nowadays. Nothing quite beats the rush of watching musicians play live, as I'm sure your friend already knows. Another idea is to make a little gift box of accessories with items like guitar picks, guitar strings, cleaning solution, and a multi-tool set for guitars and basses. Just take notice of the picks and strings he likes to use, as everyone has a preference. He'll be touched at your attentiveness! A clip-on digital tuner is another easy gift and every beginner and novice player will still be relying on a tuner to have the guitar sound just right. Your friend will thank you for such a thoughtful present! As we climb the pay scale, perhaps some guitar wall hangers, stands, and gig bags are in order. A hard shell case can actually be pretty pricey if you're looking for that wow factor and every musician needs to have his instruments well protected on the road. Guitar pedals are another wonderful option, but I certainly hope you know what style of music he plays. But before you buy, find out which guitar pedals he already has so you don't end up having to return the item. Distortion guitar pedals are perfect for metal heads and those who play heavier music while fuzz and wah pedals are excellent choices if Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix give him inspiration. Multi-effect pedals and processors can give him a versatile range of sounds and effects, too. For those who have no budget, you should look into music software or perhaps a new amplifier for your friend. Most musicians usually turn to GarageBand, but he'll need a Mac computer in order to use that software. If he's not an Apple fanboy, there are plenty of other recording software on the market for those with a PC, never fear. Either way, you'll be giving them a gift that they will be able to use for years to come! Now, amplifiers come in a variety of sizes and types so please find out what your guitarist would like to upgrade to. In terms of other gift ideas, if you're the doting parents or the beloved spouse, nothing will be quite as epic as a gift as a brand new guitar itself. But if you can't afford to splurge on a brand-spankin' new instrument, maybe a trip to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame will suffice!
