What to Do When You Think You Have Bed Bugs

If you've been waking up with hideous red itchy lumps on your legs you may have bed bugs. Don't worry though; there are solutions to this problem. First and foremost you want to make sure you have bedbugs. You don't want to call a bed bug exterminator when in reality you have small mice or lice bites on your legs - that would be absolutely pointless. No, it's best to be certain that what you're dealing with is indeed a case of the old bed bugs.

Here you should call a bed bug inspection company to confirm your findings. They will bring bed bug sniffing dogs to determine whether or not your problem is real or imagined. And should they confirm your suppositions, you will have to take the next step and call an exterminator. If you live in an apartment, your landlord should pay for this, so tell him immediately. Do not move any of your stuff from room to room - furniture, books, pillows. They could all bear bed bug eggs and if one drops out onto the floor that could mean an entire generation lives on and you'll have to go through the entire process again in a few more months.

Throw away all your junk, magazines, old clothes you don't wear, and general clutter. This makes it harder for bed bugs to move around unnoticed. Vacuum your bed and place possibly infested items in plastic bags. Then wash all the sheets in very hot water. Put the rest of the stuff in a hot dryer. This should prevent an infestation risk for your pillows and bedspreads.

These are only temporary fixes. After the bed bug detection company finds bed bugs, you should call the exterminator right away. The work you do in the meantime will be tedious, and involves putting new sheets on your bed every day and carefully rolling them off. If you have come back from traveling, spray your bag with isopropyl alcohol. This dehydrates eggs and can possibly kill bed bugs until the exterminator arrives. Remember that even if the bites stop for a few days, it doesn't mean the bed bugs are gone. You still have those creatures in your room, and they are going to get you.

It's a disgusting problem to be sure, but there are steps to recovery. First make sure you have bed bugs by calling bed bug dogs, then call the exterminator. Soon you will be back to normal.
