As a "starving artist" in New York City, I obviously do not have a lot of extra money to invest in properly furnishing my apartment. So, I have done what many other young people my age have done. I've Frankenstein-ed a living room set from here, there, and everywhere. My sofa is from a large build-it-yourself department type store and my cats have absolutely ruined it. My recliner is actually from my mother's house. It's almost as old as I am but it still works! It has also felt the wrath of my two kittens, not to mention my two siblings and me when we were younger. No, my living room is not pretty. My furniture is oddly sized and does not match. No matter how hard I try, I can't get my cats to stop clawing and scratching at that one part of my sofa and really, how good can a 20 year old recliner look? So, you can imagine my trepidation and fear when my significant other told me that we were holding a dinner party at our apartment after Thanksgiving. I explained, as calmly as I could, that our apartment was not exactly a great place for people to meet. Even if it is the biggest apartment of any of our friends, it's not aesthetically pleasing. We both agreed on this point and set about figuring out what to do about this problem. We decided to get furniture slipcovers. This was a lot cheaper than buying all new furniture (which wasn't a practical idea, although I did suggest it in jest.) We could finally make our furniture match! We just had to decide what kind of slipcovers we wanted! I knew that there were a myriad of sofa covers on the market, but I had no idea that recliner covers existed. We decided to look at these first since there was less variety of covers for recliners and we could match the cover for the sofa. The effect of these new covers was astounding! Our living room looked like something out of a showroom. Our cats even stopped scratching at the sofa. That chair had never looked so good, not even when it was new. We are so happy with our once mismatched furniture that we plan on having several more parties and are even going to host Christmas Eve dinner at our place! We want as many people to see our beautiful apartment as possible.
