Repainting Your Cabinet Finishes

Sometimes, you just get sick of the way things look. You need a change in your home and you need it fast. Change is good, that's for sure. It makes you feel like you have something new, fresh, it keeps your spirits up. So sometimes that area has to be your kitchen. You do so much in it, things wear out and get messy and maybe you are tired of looking at the same colors day in and day out. You can repaint your cabinet finishes or buy new white ones to paint and change it to your liking.

Before your painting job, you want to clear out the kitchen the proper way. Empty your cabinets, clear off the counter, and remove the appliances in the area. Not only does it make it easy for you to paint but keeps you from getting it on objects you don't want to ruin. Once you clear everything and mark it all off, you'll want to get started on those cabinet finishes and doors. You want to make sure that you paint it perfect, with no drip and with the faces flat. Each side will take about 48 hours to dry completely without ruining the paint job, so be prepared for this project to take a while.

When your cabinet finishes are done drying, you can choose to add a layer to make the cabinets look more clean. If you leave it as just the flat paint, it'll create a more rough look, which may or may not be what you are going for. But if you want a sleek look, a finish or primer would be good to go over your color.

When choosing said color for your cabinet finishes, figure out what will be easiest to work with, with your present kitchen wall colors. It's all about great contrasting colors. If your walls are white, you have it easy already. But if they are already a specific color, then look at a color wheel for what contrasts nicely without being an eye sore.

When you are done with the paint job, you can add beautiful door knob hardware to your doors. You can get matching hinges and pulls that are going to pull together the entire look. It'll be much easier to install hinges since the doors will be off already because of the painting. Once you get everything back in it's proper place, it's going to feel like a brand new kitchen but for a quarter of the price.
