Redesigning A Room Around A Crystal Chandelier Or Another Important Feature

Even the most beautiful of houses need an occasional update. Oftentimes when we pick the design for a room we stick with it and that's absolutely fine… to a point. When you become so accustomed to the room it starts to lose its appeal. Everything just feels so familiar. But it's easy to revamp the room without spending the big bucks and to do it fairly easily.

You can take a focal point and work around it as inspiration. It could be anything from lighting, such as a crystal chandelier or fireplace; to special furniture- a vintage couch perhaps; to unique structural points. They all have advantages when used to revitalize your living space.

First thing is first, take a tally of all the things you love and hate about the room you're redesigning. Are there any pieces you must absolutely keep? Are there any family heirlooms or meaningful décor? If you got any items from travels or as gifts, set them aside and take note if you can use them in the redesign or elsewhere in the home.

If you have defining fixtures, like a crystal chandelier you will want to utilize its uniqueness. A chandelier acts often as a centerpiece so it's best as a highlight in the room. Place furniture and wall décor where the light will hit to create mood lighting. Sometimes you can purchase magnetic crystals to update the chandelier. Also, take cues from its design. If you have a Maria Theresa crystal chandelier, it would look devastatingly beautiful in a monochromatic or limited color palette. Try using one base color for the room. Let the lighting do the magic with creating the illusion of different shades. A busy room can be overwhelming but a simple modern room can be just the escape you wanted. Flush mount chandeliers look spectacular in minimalist rooms because they act as the one extravagant element.

If you have old or vintage furniture you should also take advantage of that. You may decide to get it refurbished but it is not always a necessity. The furniture can be accented with throw pillows and surrounded by an area rug and small coffee table. Align furniture so that you have a space to converse with friends. The lighting should envelop the furniture without being too harsh. Take placement into consideration in relation to the lights.

If your room has any distinct structural oddities, say an uneven wall space, low or slanted ceilings, or posts, you can use them to emphasize your new design. These are perfect spaces for dramatic touches, like drapes or hanging vintage brass chandeliers. It also works as inspiration. Paint pillars and posts for a Spanish villa or Tuscan country home theme. Add tiles around them for additional flair.

Take whatever spark of creativity you get from what you have and enjoy your "new" room.
