The borough of Queens is one of the most ethnically diverse places in the entire country, let alone New York City. They have the largest Colombian, Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Chinese, Indian, Korean, Filipino, Bangladeshi and Pakistani populations of all the boroughs. 138 different languages are spoken in the borough alone, so that's a lot of different kinds of people who are all creating concoctions of delicious food that they know from their home countries.

If you are look for the best Korean food, you need travel no further than Flushing. Flushing is a hub for Korean culture and food in Queens and you'll find the most genuine of Asian meals here. You'll find everything from quick eats to nicer sit down restaurants, to Korean barbecue buffets.

For Filipino food, there's a nice stretch of restaurants in Woodside on Roosevelt avenue, which is a main stretch of restaurants and shops. Ihawan is one great restaurant for filipino barbecue, on 70th street. It's small but has all the favorites, like Lechon Kawali, which is deep fried pork with liver sauce. Sounds a little strange if you've never had it, but is quite delicious! Filipino food can be very spicy though, so be sure to know what you can handle and ask for them to point out less spicy items on the menu.

For Greek food, there's no better place than Astoria. You'll get all the best dishes, like gyros, souvlaki, and some Turkish coffee. You can't throw a rock without hitting a Greek restaurant in the area and you can be sure that it's the real deal, as it's the home of many Greek immigrants and first generation Greek-Americans.

When people visit New York City, they hear about all the great food that is found there. From the restaurants in Soho to the bar food in Brooklyn, there's a lot of places to eat and it can be a bit overwhelming, especially when everyone is telling you where to go and what they think the best is. And while you may get an excellent slice of pizza just off the Brooklyn bridge and great southern food in Harlem, for truly ethnic food, there's nothing like the food in Queens.

Food in Queens is often underrated but completely worth the trip into this outer borough. Even if you are visiting the city, don't get caught up in just the Manhattan options. Take the time to explore the unique cultural neighborhoods of Queens.
