Photography is a fantastic hobby for teenagers. A family friend as recent as three months ago had lamented that her daughter had been doing very poorly in school, cutting class and mouthing off to her teachers. She was on a bad track and it seemed like nothing could get her back on it. Solutions were discussed but in many ways everyone thought the situation was futile. One day while shopping my uncle, always looking to help, browsed through some Canon compact digital cameras and some new Nikon cameras looking for one for this troubled youth. Perhaps a hobby that encourages both creative restlessness and dutifully understanding how something works would help her out. The results were in very quickly. Her Nikon digital SLR camera was her new most prized possession and her Facebook profile was now being littered with photographs. She took pictures at family events and around the hallways of school. She took photos of her teachers, which meant she was now going to classes again. She took photos of her dogs and her bedroom walls. It was a complete rebirth for the girl. She was more focused and nicer, rare qualities in a teenager. It was clear that having a way to express herself was the thing she was desperately seeking in all of her bad behavior and unpleasant run ins. Her mother of course was elated with her progress and was endlessly thankful to my uncle for helping unlock all of this potential within her. Photography of course will not save every troubled kid not going to class but finding a piece of equipment that taps into something within a child can be an incredibly powerful moment, not just for the kid but for the person giving them that gift. My uncle beams with pride that shopping for SLR cameras for sale could have such a profound affect on this teenager's life. As of now her grades have rebounded and her photography is clearly what we have to thank for that. She does her research on photography now too. She understands all the best SLR cameras, pouring over magazines and blog posts for enterprising young shutterbugs. It is a new lease on life for her and incredible relief to her family. This goes to show the power of art and the power of having a little bit of faith in a kid's ability to correct their path if given a little bit of guidance.
