Biohazardous Material Anxiety

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.nextlevelarticles.com/rss.php?rss=48
By : Mark Etinger

There are a lot of things out there worth being scared of. Wars and global warming, economic collapse and personal failure, also snakes. But the things that we have a truly practical immediate reason to concern ourselves with are often the hardest to see. Disease spreads in hundreds of different forms in thousands of different ways and yet people spend time being afraid of public speaking. I personally am afraid of mismanaged medical waste disposal and chemical waste disposal. While many advances have been made to help ensure our collective safety from stray blood bags and unattended syringes the reality is a strange and horrible disease could seemingly be looming in every shipment of chemical disposal or of used medical supplies.

Maybe it is not as stark as it seems to me. I mean it is clear that there has been a lot of advances made in hazardous waste disposal and regulations have done a very effective job of keeping the problems to a minimum in the United States. What's more, there are really fantastic innovative companies working in the realm of hazardous waste disposal. They make strong efforts to keep everyone safe inventing cleaner more efficient ways to destroy waste and safer more careful ways to transport it to their treatment plants. In a way that is what scares me the most, if they are doing all this work to make handling scary chemicals and waste safer there must be something really worth worrying about. In other words if they care we definitely should care.

Of course it could just be me. I am nervous about a lot of stuff. For some reason diseases and hazardous radioactive waste scare me a lot more. Unlike so many of our fears these things are tangible realities responsible for our day to day survival in many ways. It seems almost too easy that they should also spell our inevitable demise. Think of it, the things we use to power our lives and keep us healthy could spell our doom, it is as if someone from Hollywood were hatching our entire next act as a civilization!

Luckily, I am regularly reassured that this is in fact not the case. We have a very stable and sustainable system for getting rid of biohazardous material. Still a little bit of concern and forward looking pessimism never hurt anybody. Safety as they say, should always come first.
