Blankets to Make You Feel Better

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.nextlevelarticles.com/rss.php?rss=92
By : Mark Etinger

I was recently really sick. I'm talking the kind of sick where you can't even complain to your significant other that you need more tea or they should come spend more time with you because you're sleeping 23.5 out of 24 hours in the day. I was running a temperature; I had a box of tissues next to my bed and a huge pile of them in my bedside trashcan. I was not a happy camper.

When I started to get better and was put on bed rest, I began to whine a little more. I asked for a little more soup, applesauce, and tea. And I bugged my significant other to watch endless political commentary on television with me in the bedroom. I also started to notice that despite my restlessness at being kept in bed for long periods of time, I was remarkably comfortable!

My loving partner had made sure, after I was no longer contagious, to change the sheets on the bed. He put on my favorite jersey cotton sheet set and handed me my favorite fuzzy blanket. It's a red, fuzzy, fleece blanket that I affectionately call "The Muppet" because it looks like the same material that Telly Monster is made of. I have been assured that no Muppets were harmed in the making of my favorite blanket.

Once I started to feel even better and was able to move around the apartment a little more, I stayed on the couch most days with pillows and blankets and throws galore. I wanted to make myself a little, sick nest to recover in. It was actually really great, I was plied with good soup, homemade apple sauce, tea, attention and affection, and was snuggled up with blankets while I watched movies or surfed the internet.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ridiculously glad that I'm no longer sick and no longer have to stay on the couch. I'm glad I can move around and do as I please. But those creature comforts, like warm blankets, comfortable sheets, snuggly throws and pillows and my little couch nest are missed on days where my back is hurting from sitting in my office chair for hours at a time. Wouldn't it be great if we could make little comfort nests at our desks? I wonder if my office mates would think I was weird if I brought in a red, fuzzy fleece blanket and started referring to it as "The Muppet."
