How to Live Abroad For a Year After Buying Europe Airline Tickets

So you're subletting your apartment, putting your stuff in storage and leaving the country? The ol' one way ticket, eh? Got a backpack and all the special clothes you want to bring. But once you get there, then what are you going to do? First off you'll need a source of income, unless you've saved enough money to rent a place or sleep in hostels and travel, which is a totally feasible option. Depending on the country, you'll probably spend about a thousand bucks a month, more the farther west you go.

If you want to buy a work visa, make sure you have enough pages in your passport. If not, the best places to get under the table jobs are hotels and hostels, which usually work out pretty well since board and breakfast are included and you get to meet many interesting people. Restaurants, bars, and night clubs are also a place to get started, as well as anywhere in the tourist industry. But be careful, you don't want to get deported. Of course, you can always volunteer or teach too. Especially if you know that English you will be an asset, and you thus may find it easier to secure a job.

Items you'll want to bring include a camera, computer (which you can make look less valuable by covering it in stickers), a good pair of flip-flops, a universal travel plug adapter and a lightweight, fast-drying travel towel. Don't over pack; remember that you can wash your clothes in a sink and with that in mind, don't bring heavy clothing that will weigh you down and take a long time to dry.

You may consider Couch Surfing as a way to save some extra money. Befriending people and staying in contact takes time, but is well worth it when you find yourself s in their cities for a while without places to stay. Living abroad without a plan is part of the fun. If you're running low on cash, take your last five hundred dollars and spend it on a trip to a far-flung place in Southeast Asia, where it's cheaper to live and it's easy to find work teaching English. It works out if you want it to, even if it takes until the last minute. As long as you put your positive will into succeeding, you will find yourself successful in your travels. Who knows, your trip may last ten years instead of ten months.
