A lot of people have what amounts to a potentially fatal false confidence with regards to their relative driving skills. I see it all the time. Because driving is so common and most people are assumed to know how to do it folks seem to trivialize it's ease while at the same time endangering everybody else on the road. When we all take our first driving test we are engaged and often somewhat nervous, but time has a funny way of turning those nerves into a swaggering disregard for the safety of ourselves, our passengers, and everyone else on and off the road. Going to a driving school is a great way to learn the basics but those basics need to be reaffirmed every few years. This is why savvy car insurance providers offer discounts to folks who go through the trouble of taking a five hour driving course. In those courses you learn or in some cases simply relearn many things. Things that are essential to making the most of your time in the car in terms of keeping you and everyone on the road safer. You get defensive driving skills that can make you better at responding to the unexpected variances in the road. You receive useful reminders of the things one can do to simply make their car driving experience safer, mirror positions and the like. After taking a five hour driving class you will be shocked by how differently you begin to approach the road. True, you have probably "always been a safe driver" as you surely insist to everyone but there is something to be said for getting more and more safe. Time is a strange thing when it comes to day to day routines and the things we get most used to. Seeing the degradation in quality of one's driving upon taking a five hour driving course might make you rethink a lot more about what you do every day. Things like brushing your teeth and cleaning the house may start to seem a lot less presumptuously simple when you realize that you have not adjusted a mirror in a few years. It is easy to expect ourselves to always retain the knowledge we have collected yet it is almost never the case. Having ideas and methods being reinforced is the best way to make sure you are ready for the road. A driving school can be helpful for drivers of any age. Even if you only got your license last year or if you have been trucking cross country for the last fifty years getting reacquainted with safety is a good idea.
