According to a number of statistical and news organizations more Americans than ever are choosing to work at home. Many of these newly home employed work for themselves and are bloggers, freelancers, and a host of other professions that can be done remotely now that advances in information technology have reached such great heights. Although that camp represents one group of people working at home, those are not necessarily the best work from home jobs. A lot of people have a steady paycheck and the benefits of working at a medium to large sized firm but are doing it from the comfort of their own home. Companies like the savings associated with having a remote, or partially remote, workforce, and people like not having to leave their homes to work. I will admit that for those working from home have a pretty sweet set up. Many of the people who earn money working from home can create their own schedules and hours. This allows for people who are working part time to supplement their income. It also means people raising a family can work around their family obligations. Even retirees are getting in on the action. With more and more people, even the elderly, becoming tech savvy a lot of the workforce is working at home. Retirees like the idea of supplementing their pension of help their family by working 15-25 hour work weeks while still enjoying the leisure that retirement brings. Students are also finding working at home superior to typical student employment like food service or working on campus. Class scheduling can be hectic so knowing that you can complete your studies and then work as much or as little as you want is convenient for students. These real work from home jobs (or work from dorm jobs) often pay better than typical student employment. That incentivizes a large segment of the student population to seek out legitimate work from home opportunities. Remotely working also has a lot hidden cost saving perks for those who choose to earn money working from home. You do not need to spend money and time on commuting. You do not need to buy lunch around your place of work. You do not need to buy as much "work clothing". Some people simply like avoiding office politics. The list of perks is long so it makes sense many people are choosing real work at home jobs as opposed to office jobs.
