It's become a personal pet peeve and yet a vernacular non sequitur for this conversation to occur: "What time is it?" "I don't know; I don't have my phone." I cannot stand when people say they cannot tell me the time because their cell phone is not readily available. Get a watch! It's not difficult to wear, and it doesn't get in the way. If I had it my way, men and women would go back to a time when everyone carried a pocket watch.

This is why I'm buying my boyfriend a watch for Christmas. He has one, and never wears it. This is because he used to wear it while he was a dog walker so it is infused with sweat, and the smell of wet dog and a myriad of other unsavory smells. He works at a day job that requires him to be aware of the time to know when to switch shifts. This job also does not allow the employees to carry their cell phones on the floor. Of course, this scenario presents a problem to my boyfriend who relies on his cell phone for his only timepiece so he breaks the rules and sneaks it onto the floor. He's also an actor so he needs to dress up nicely for auditions. A big, hulking sports watch with a Velcro band would not cut it with his really nice suit.

This is why I'm going to buy him a nice brand name watch for Christmas. But where do I begin? I would love to buy him a nice Versace watch because he deserves it, but they're very expensive! I don't want to get him just any watch but buying a discount watch online seems to be a great option for someone like me who doesn't have a lot of money to spend on a pricey brand name watch. That's how I found Festina watches which seem to be a great way to buy a really nice watch without the hefty pricetag.

I'll be very glad to finally find him the perfect watch so that when he opens it on Christmas morning, he won't think it's an insult that I bought him a watch (he's not usually a late person so he shouldn't take it that way) but rather as a thoughtful gift that he will want to wear with confidence. And maybe it'll stop him from breaking the rules at work. And maybe, just maybe, he'll stop looking at his cell phone when I ask him the time.
