Get Crafty For The Holidays With Photo Printer Paper

Last year for Christmas, I wanted to do something a little different. I figured I should add a little Christmas special do-it-yourself projects into my cards. I was feeling crafty and found the perfect little project. I was going to make painted doily snowflake cards.

All you need for this adorable project is a stack of paper doilies, a stencil brush, some festive card stock paper, white paint, a paint pen, and some photo printer paper. Cut your colored card stock into the size of card that you want. I cut my normal printer sized paper into thirds to create long landscape cards.

Place the doily where you want the design to be. Remember, the more ornate the design, the prettier it will be. Also, keep in mind that the design will basically be a negative of the doily. Once you have the doily placed where you want it, take the stencil brush, also called a stipple brush, and dip it in the white paint. Tap the paint all around the doily making sure to get it into all the little holes and around the scalloped edges. Your card doesn't have to have the whole doily on it. It's actually very pretty to have only a corner or just a half on an edge of the card. If you want the whole doily, it looks like a pretty wreath! When considering doily placement, make sure you have enough room to include a picture and a message.

Once you've filled in all the holes and stippled paint on all of the edges, carefully remove the doily from the card, taking care not to smudge or smear the paint. When the paint is dry, write a message on the card like "Happy Holidays." Last year, I wrote "Have yourself a merry little Christmas…" on mine.

After you've written your message and painted your lovely snowflake doily, it's time to add a picture. Take a photo of you and your family, or your cat, or something that you love, and make a wallet sized photo on inkjet photo paper. Make sure it's a photo that you don't mind your boss, your aunt, and your friend Emily all seeing! Also be sure to pick good quality photo printer paper so the ink doesn't run and smudge in transit.

Print your photos on the photo printer paper and cut them out. Paste them onto the card and voila! You have your very own, do-it-yourself beautiful holiday card. It's a lot easier than it sounds in this multi-step tutorial and makes a great impression on your family and friends. Getting homemade cards is a lot more special than receiving store bought ones, in my opinion. I promise everyone will adore them.
