I will admit it. I have always been the outdoorsy, rambunctious, adventurous tom-boy type. When given the choice between a doll dream house and a new pair of overalls, guess which I was more excited about? I grew up rough and tumble and when I was old enough, I climbed my first mountain. Then I started sailing. My chosen profession was technical theatre. I was a carpenter. I was ridiculously hard on my watches. I had band saw accidents, boating collisions, and even smashed one against a sheer rock face that I was climbing. I'm sure that if watches were anthropomorphic and had legs, they would have run the other direction when they saw me coming. I really had to find a good watch repair shop in addition to a good solid watch. I'm sure it didn't help that I purchased some of the cheapest watches available on the market. The bands broke and I had to constantly look for new watch bands for sale. The batteries would stop working then start again hours behind which made me late for more meetings than I care to admit. It took a few watches but I finally learned that the bargain bin at my local department store was not the best place to buy a watch. That's when I started looking into heavy duty watches. When my local jeweler didn't know what to tell me after I brought in my 14th consecutive broken watch, I started doing research to buy new watches online. I found that there were a myriad of watches that just might stand the test of my ownership. There were diving watches that could stand the caves of Cozumel, sailing watches that would take me around Nova Scotia, and even mountain climbing watches for my planned climb to Kilimanjaro in Africa! Maybe these wouldn't need to be taken to the watch repair shop and my jeweler would be seeing much less of me. These watches were even sold in a woman's variety so that my tiny wrists wouldn't be overwhelmed by a huge watch or weigh me down when I was trying to swim back to a capsized canoe. When I learned how easy it was to find a rugged new watch online, I even went ahead and purchased my very first "girly" silver watch for those times when I go out on dates. Yes, even tomboys go out on dates. And yes, this one will probably need some watch repair.
