A Practical Defense Of A Five Hour Driving Class

By : Mark Etinger

A five hour driving class is now the difference between you and a big discount on your car insurance. It was not always this way of course. When you first made your road test appointment you were nervous and troubled by the prospect of someone judging the merits of your driving. You had long heard a wealth of road test horror stories. Circumstance as it were could easily come between you and your driver's license should some unforeseen and uncontrollable occurrence complicate your driving even slightly. These things, you assumed, happened all the time. Your time in driver's ed was mostly uneventful but you still drove around with all the anxiety of a person fully aware that a car can potentially be a very dangerous item and that even if you were a great driver, which you knew you definitely were not, you could be harmed by another less qualified driver who had somehow slipped through the system.

So now you were looking into a five hour driving class simply as measure to reduce your monthly expenditure and the anxiety you had felt back in driver's ed had long since disappeared. You have grown as a person and experience has assured you that whatever your original misgivings you could certainly drive. The class it's self though may surprise you. Driving as long as you have could slowly and unknowingly result in habits of laziness, convenience, or just casual assumed confidence. A five hour driving class can be pretty revelatory to a driver who has been on the road for a long time.

As you relearn things like defensive driving techniques and basic refreshers of processes and procedures that make you a safer more aware driver you will realize that as time has marched on you have stopped appreciating the gravity of driving. I have seen a number of people leave these brief refresher courses simply shocked that they were being so egregiously unaware of their surroundings while behind the wheel. In all, there is a real reason that insurers are willing to give discounts for driver's taking these courses, they happen to work really well.

If you have yet to consider a five hour driving class let this be an opportunity to begin considering it. The savings are simply gravy on the increased safety for yourself, your loved ones and the rest of us on the road. Being a good driver does not guarantee your safety on the road but it makes your chances better. Who wouldn't want that?
