In the age of copying machines, printers and faxes, we often forget about the many uses of dot matrix paper and dot matrix printers. They may look archaic but they can still serve a valuable purpose in the modern office. Dot matrix paper and printers are ideal for storing data in hard copy form. Since the dot matrix paper is in one continuous spool you do not need to worry about things getting out of order or disorganized. Making multiple copies simultaneously is also easy because dot matrix paper works with both carbon paper and carbon-less paper. Using conventional printers and papers to make copies for data storage takes a lot longer because you cannot make simultaneous copies. Since all the pages are not bound together, as they are with carbon or carbon-less paper, it can be very easy to get them out of order, which may force you to reprint all that data unnecessarily. Another advantage of dot matrix paper and printers is their ease of use. Unlike with today's modern printers you do not need to call a specialist when it breaks down. Anyone can change the paper feed or ink ribbon on a dot matrix printer. They are great for a more low-tech environment where print needs to occur like a mechanics shop or welder.They can easily withstand industrial conditions that most modern computer based printers cannot. They can also be integrated into high tech environments. Some devices work with dot matrix paper and printers and digitally stores the information that is put out. This in turn lets you have both well-organized hard copies, and malleable digital copies. It is always a good idea to have multiple copies of important information, as you never know when mechanical or technical failure will strike. Dot-matrix paper also makes great point of sale paper and receipts. It ensures both the consumer and the business have a hard copy of the transaction. Like all dot-matrix papers, receipts paper is easy to load for any cashier. There are, however, some draw backs to dot-matrix paper and printer. Since dot-matrix printers can be a bit louder than conventional printers it may not be a good idea to station on at someone's work space. Also color printing on dot-matrix papers and printers is not as good as color print on modern printers. For data logging and a handful of other tasks, however, dot-matrix paper and printing are essential.
