As many Jews probably know Chanukah is it a hand. That means Chanukah gifts, celebration, and Chanukah menorahs. The festival of lights is not as big in Israel is it is here in the states, but then again they don't have Christmas to compete with. Chanukah brings to mind a lot of things. The first thing you want to make sure you have a Chanukah menorah. It is the centerpiece of the holiday and no Chanukah would be complete without it. You can go the more popular route of having a candle menorah. This is your standard Chanukah menorah that takes menorah candles. Do not just use regular candles as they burn quickly and are not designed for use in a menorah. You can also go the more traditional olive oil menorah which burns on oil, much like the menorah's of old did. The oil smells great. An olive oil menorah is fun because it is less common and a bit more in step with the Chanukah tradition. Many people have never even seen an olive oil menorah as a Chanukah center piece, so it should be a big hit with the guests. Next you have the issue of Chanukah gifts. Chances are you have a lot of people to shop for. Goiing online to store that sell Judaica is a good place to start, but there are great places to buy Jewish Gifts all over the place. Jewish Books, mezuzot, and Judaic jewelry all make great Chanukah gifts. Shopping online can save you money on all these things. If you are the person hosting Chanukah this year you have a whole list of things to take care of from planning the meal to creating the seating arrangements. A Jewish book of recipes could be just what you need if you are feeling at a loss for things to make. Also do not be afraid to delegate, ask your guests to bring things like wine, non-alcoholic drinks, salads, appetizers, and other things you may just be too busy to make on your own. Make sure to use your finest flatware and silverware. After all, you are treating your friends to a special evening so hold nothing back. Even whip out that nice bold of wine you have been aging. Make sure to all set up a kids table with some disposable dishes and utensils. The parents will appreciate time away from the kids and the kids will enjoy having their own little diner.
