The holiday season is just around the corner. Before you know it, your store will be bustling with customers looking to do plenty of holiday shopping. They'll be looking for great discounts, a large selection of gift ideas, and speedy, yet helpful customer service. To ensure a smooth holiday season, stock up on plenty of supplies for your store. Specialty stores and gift shops should never be without paper gift bags and other wrapping supplies. Customers usually dread having to make so many stops during the busy holiday season. If they can find everything they need at just a small handful of stores, they'll be pleased. Consider investing in paper gift bags and boxes to provide for your customers. If you plan on making them complimentary, create a customer limit so one person doesn't wipe you out of half of the supply. Larger, more decorative gift bags and boxes should obviously be sold for profit, along with any other wrapping supplies like ribbon, wrapping paper, and gift bag tags. The cash register is the perfect spot for impulse buys -that's retail selling 101. Place small items under $10 near the cash register and where the line will form. While standing on line (hopefully not for too long) customers can't help but look at all the perfect little stocking stuffers. Naturally they'll have trouble resisting and they're sure to find a use for the item. Invest in wooden display racks on the counters to keep products organized and in good site. Utilize that space well for the overflow of seasonal merchandise. Remember to order any and all supplies in advance. With other stores placing just as many orders as you for supplies, it might take the supply company slightly longer to pack and ship your supplies. You don't want to be stuck without cash register paper or gift basket supplies for several days. When it does come time for replenishment, place the order when you're halfway done with that particular supply. That should provide ample time for the supplies to reach the store. And be sure to order in larger shipments to avoid placing multiple orders. Although your mind might be on bags and tissue paper, don't forget about the little items like pens, printer paper, tape, etc. These items are just as important to run the store properly. Before the holiday season officially gets underway, take inventory of what you need immediately and make a list. It's always better to prepare early than be caught without sufficient supplies later.
