Although there is certainly a time and a place for archive-quality scrapbooks, sometimes you just want a speedy and inexpensive way to make a durable little scrapbook. These little clear plastic bag scrapbooks are great to make as a children's activity. These books can even make a wonderful present for relatives who wish to see some photos of your family members. Kids can even learn a whole lot about saving pictures through this activity. If you currently have photos hung around your house in picture frames, you may even borrow a few of these for one of these scrapbooks. Make a few of these simple little books today, and let the picture fun begin.

Materials You Will Need To Have

In order to create a scrapbook out of plastic bags, you'll have to get a container of gallon plastic bags that zip closed. Be sure to find plain bags, instead of ones with printing on the front. You'll also need a couple of pieces of light cardboard, cut to the size of 12 x 12 inches square. Get together some scrapbook paper, or maybe some affordable craft paper instead, particularly if your children will be working on this activity. A few more things you will need are glue sticks, a pair of scissors, a ruler, a hole punch, a yarn needle, some markers, as well as a hammer and nice big nail. Plus, of course you will need a nice array of photos. Use printed off digital photos for children, instead of using the original prints of film photos. If your album is meant for a relative, it might be best to choose pictures that are good enough quality to display in scrapbook picture frames. Children, however, are usually happy with any sort of photos.

Putting Together The Album

If you are producing the scrapbook for a children's project, you will most likely want to assemble it yourself. Determine how many pages you really want, and select that exact same number of plastic bags. Join them together by stapling together 5 bags, placing the staples along the left side and the zipping edge on the top edge. If your total number of pages will be greater than 5, than produce more sections. Take one of the cardboard covers and position it on a cushioned surface where you plan to be working, and place a stack of the plastic bags on top of the cardboard. Pound a line of holes about an inch apart through the bags and the cardboard, using the hammer and the nail. Repeat with the other cover and the remaining plastic bag sections. Position the clusters of bags in between the covers, line them up with the holes matching up, and then sew it all together with a needle and yarn, then simply knot the ends when you are done. Score along the bound edges of the front and back covers of the album using the ruler to guide you, and then you can fold them back. When you accomplish this the album will open with little effort.

Putting In The Pictures

Once the book is constructed, the fun can start. Get a bunch of construction paper and some photographs that will fit the bags correctly and then present them to your child. Then they can use sticky squares or glue and some markers and a pair of scissors to create fun pages. When the photo pages are all complete, put them in the bag page holders, and zip them shut. If you are making the book for a gift, you might want to take some more time making the pages. These scrapbooks are great because the pages are so easy to open and close that it makes it extra easy to swap photos in between your book and picture frames.

These books are a great way to exhibit your favorite pictures, and they make a great project for your kids or a present for friends and relatives
