Choosing the Right Flooring and Carpeting for Your Office

When it comes to flooring and carpeting for the office, there's a lot to consider. It could be you just moved into a new building and want to lay down new flooring before you get everything else set up. Or maybe you are closing for a long weekend to get renovations done. Sometimes what a space really needs is a bit of an overhaul.

When you choose your flooring and carpeting, think about how a change in material can section off various parts of an office without the need of a wall and door. Carpeting in the regular work area where the cubicles are create a comfortable environment for your employees, but laying down tile in the kitchen, even if in the same room, creates a distinct feel and let's people know they are in a different area.

Tile is also used for a kitchen area because of the ease of cleaning. If something spills on a tile floor, it's easily cleaned up with a wipe of paper towel. Where as a stain on a carpet means hiring carpet cleaners to get it out, or investing in a steamer that may be more money than you are looking to spend on cleaning supplies.

When you choose your carpeting, you want a carpet that is beneficial and easy to clean. After all it's going to handle a lot of feet walking on it every day. A plush carpet is probably not the best choice because it will trap so much more dirt. You'll want a tightly woven carpet that doesn't have as many crevices for dirt and dust to catch. Also consider color. Something too bright or lightly colored, like white, means that stains are going to show up easily. A subtle gray is a good choice for most offices, or a navy color as well. Darker colors means marks stay hidden a bit longer before you have to do a thorough cleaning.

It's important that you really do your research with flooring and carpeting choices because you want your employees to be comfortable, the look of the office to really represent your company, and everything to be easy to clean and maintain. The key is durability from wear and tear from high traffic as well as a sense of comfort for those spending such long hours at work. After all, we spend a great deal of our day to day lives in the office, it should feel just as livable as home!
