If I had a lot of money I would make sure the interior of my house were really beautiful. I\'d pay particular attention to two places where I would spent most of my time: my bedroom and my office.
In the bedroom I'd have a big four post bed with mahogany engraved egg and dart patterns around the cornices. From it would hang purple (the color of royalty) silk sheets offering privacy and intimacy. My sheets would be Egyptian cotton with the highest thread count possible and as a comforter I'd have a pure white goose down blanket. I would have a silk Persian rug on the floor and large tropical plants in each corner of the room sitting in blue and white pots imported from China. Modern light fixtures would hang from the ceiling so I'd be able to angle and dim them as desired. Across the room would be a green velvet divan with a black spider lamp standing over it. Adorning the walls and under the wainscoting and coffered hand-carved ceiling would be priceless pieces of art by the masters, Rembrandt, Picasso, Matisse, de Kooning, next to which I'd have a secret entry door into my office.
My office, otherwise known as my writing room or the library, would have a huge mahogany desk with a plush seat and a small MacBookPro ready to plug into thirty-six inch speakers from which I'd play my favorite Bach fugues. I'd also have a fresh vase of roses, mums, lilies, or carnations, depending on the season, to provide a lovely scent and a burst of color.
Across the room would be my books, all of them, which I'd continually be adding to, and which my librarian/housekeeper would keep track of. Since there'd be so many, I'd need a rolling ladder to get to the books at the top. On my desk I'd have beautiful Serge Mouille mid century modern lighting, as well as sconce lamps along the walls and a standing floor lamp over the seating area, where I invite my friends to sit for scotch and cigars and chocolate in antique Louis Quinze style armchairs with accompanying ottoman and silver tray to hold the crystal drink dispenser. My librarian would also be a barista and would tend to my Marzocco espresso machine and brew me perfectly tasting espresso whenever I require it.
Here's hoping this dream one day becomes a reality.
