Retail Supplies For The Holiday Rush

With the holidays around the corner, every retail store will turn into a madhouse. Despite it being crazy, it will be a good sign because that means people love your store and the sales (and money) will come pouring in. But, before the holiday season officially begins, there are plenty of retail supplies to stock up on and merchandise to sort.

Every store will be going through its retail supplies two or three times its normal rate. It is incredibly important to stock up and replenish quickly. For example, do not wait until you are down to the last ten rolls of register paper. You should have already placed an order for another shipment the moment you were ½ to ¾ of the way done with the supply. You never know when the supply company or delivery company will run into a problem, delaying your package and leaving you without the items you need to run the store. This strategy also applies to plastic/paper bags for purchased merchandise and tissue paper (if your store uses it.) As always, keep extra pens, counterfeit markers, tape, markers, etc. near the register area. You'd be surprised how quickly the store will also go through those items.

The holiday season also hopefully means that sales will be going on (I hope you have a way to entice customers)! This entails numerous price changes and markdowns. Monarch price guns need to be loaded and ready to go. Red pricing labels will also be a must to let customers easily spot sales or marked down items. After the holidays are over, any seasonal merchandise will most likely be reduced so you can start making room for spring! (Time flies doesn't it?)

Throughout the entire holiday season, keep all sale items together to make shopping a breeze. If a good majority of your items are on sale, consider grouping items with the same discount together, such as 20% items on one shelf and 50% items on another. That means you'll need less signage and it will make tagging items easier. Sometimes, it is better to place a large sign on a single shelf rather than waste so many pricing labels to individually tag items. Plus, if it goes back to regular price after the holidays, you will not have to re-tag the items again.

The most important thing to remember is to stay calm and focused and to always plan ahead. Do not wait until the last minute to tag or to purchase retail supplies. With the right preparations, the holiday season can be smooth sailing!
